A one stop shop – from ground to cloud
Cloud Computing for all its hype and apparent ‘plug and play’ attributes has to physically reside somewhere and that somewhere is in a data centre.
At the heart of iomart’s success lies its investment in its core infrastructure – data centres and network. iomart Group owns and operates 7 UK data centres in London, Manchester, Rhyl, Maidenhead, Glasgow, Nottingham and Leicester and has points of presence (POPs) in North America, Germany and the far east, offering more than 5,128m² of advanced data hall space.
The benefit of this investment is clear - no legacy operations, practices or reliance on third parties – we are masters of our destiny. This approach has enabled us to equip the facilities, and guarantee power supplies, to meet future computing demand and trends such as large scale virtualisation, Big Data, distributed storage and multi site disaster recovery.
By using iomart for cloud services, clients are guaranteed that their data remains secure and more importantly within known boundaries and locations.
The Group is one of only a handful of UK service providers to have every one of our facilities certified to ISO9001 Quality Management System and ISO 27001 Information Security Management System standards.
But data is only one half of the cloud story. The cloud is only as good as the access that connects you to it. As the volume of data grows exponentially and the web becomes more media rich, so the need for high speed networks will become more and more important.

The Group owns and manages its own fibre network which once again negates the need for reliance on multiple providers, giving us total control over our own network. This fibre ring gives iomart one of the fastest and most resilient fibre networks of any cloud computing company in the UK.
Customers on the network will have the fastest connections allowing them to move huge amounts of data at the highest speeds wherever they are located. It allows the Group to take our network right up to our customers' doors which is of huge benefit to organisations wanting secure, private cloud environments.
The fibre network provides a 1,860 kilometre business critical fibre superhighway linking our six UK data centre locations.
Owning our own data centre and network infrastructure enables us to innovate – we are not tied to third party restrictions or legacy practice. We are investing heavily in new services and in ensuring that we provide action, and thought leadership, in important industry areas such as reducing our operating impact on the environment.
We often say that 'we don't sell hosting services we sell peace of mind' and over the past few years we have experienced rapid growth in our customer base suggesting that it's an ethos which organisations and individuals are actively seeking and buying into.
