Events - Sowing the Seeds of Change
A FREE one day event to get YOU thinking
Wednesday 25th June 2008
Wembley Stadium
Can the virtual world really lessen its impact on the real one or is it all Greenwash?
Let’s be blunt, data centres are not the most environmentally friendly buildings on the block. It is estimated that the typical sized data centre uses as much electricity as 4000 homes, and that globally; data centres generate between 100m and 150m tonnes of Co2. But data centres and server rooms are not going to go away. The internet is driving the world’s economy and without servers there can be no internet.
But we can all review our own operating practices to ensure that we actively minimise our impact on the world’s environment. Managing an IT infrastructure to balance greater use whilst reducing its environmental impact is extremely difficult but it is achievable. Server virtualisation & consolidation, renewal energy sources, mobile working, power recycling are all areas which are generally considered to assist in the greening of the IT department.
This event is designed is be both informative and useful. We are not promising the delivery of green IT strategies, best practise or the answers to global warming, we are simply providing a platform for some thought provoking debate in a relaxed environment.
