Without a resilient and secure network, the most advanced web applications, server infrastructures and virtualised environments are constantly at risk. The iomart Group has invested millions of pounds in building one of the UK's most resilient and technologically advanced data networks.

At the heart of the Group's data network design is the key principle: no single point of failure. The network creates a pan UK ring that connects and interconnects all five iomart Hosting UK data centres to the cloud. Each UK data centre is connected via a 1 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) fibre ring which provides resiliency and diversity to minimise the impact of a single transit failure.

All data routing equipment is best of breed CISCO. The iomart Group has partnership arrangements with multiple Tier 1 transit providers including Cogent, Global Crossing, Cable & Wireless and Level 3, who provide redundant links to avoid the risk of downtime.

Automatic systems constantly monitor our entire network, transit links and servers. In the event of any problem, our data centre Network Operations teams are on site 24 hours a day.

The Group's network currently switches over 500 Mbps of traffic at peak times and has 1Gbps of inter-site capacity available at any time, guaranteeing connectivity that is free of collisions and packet loss.

Hosting customers have the ability to connect to the Group's network in more than one location to increase their own service resiliency.

This investment in its own fully managed network is yet another USP for the Group's brands when compared to other providers operating in the hosting space. It is vital that fast, reliable, data transit is provided to organisations who wish to maximise the benefits that cloud computing offers.
