Impact and Guidance

In light of Broadcom’s recent announcements regarding VMware, which signalled the end of existing Enterprise License Agreements (ELAs) and partner licensing models, we understand the uncertainty that this presents to our customers and partners. It is unclear at this time what the impact across data centres, cloud and platform solutions will be.

What we can say is that as we navigate the situation, we are committed to guiding our customers and partners through this transition with clarity and support.

A Pinnacle Partner at Your Service

As one of the select 100 global top-tier Pinnacle Partners with Broadcom for VMware, and only one of seven in the UK, we at iomart are in a unique position to assist our customers and partners through these changes. Our Pinnacle Partner status means we receive the latest updates directly from Broadcom and have direct access to VMware solution architects, ensuring we are well-equipped to provide up-to-date and comprehensive support.

Even with our close relationship with Broadcom, the situation is rapidly evolving, and full details are still forthcoming. We are in frequent contact with various teams at Broadcom as they work towards providing clarity on future licensing models.

Key Dates and What They Mean

Several key dates have been announced, marking significant milestones in the transition to new licensing models:

  • 2nd Feb – Termination of all new sales/renewals of end-user ELAs and perpetual licenses.
  • 31st Mar – End of MSP rental period of VMware Cloud Provider Program (VCPP) usage model.
  • 1st Apr – MSP subscriptions move from metered RAM to Per Core upfront licensing.
  • 30th Apr – End of transition period, all customers on lapsed ELAs must move to new subscriptions.

During the transition period, it’s crucial to note that, like all the newly announced Pinnacle Partners, we are currently unable to definitively quote or place new orders for licenses. Any lapsed licenses should continue to be usable during the transition period.
